The Bulgarian authorities' abuse of refugees and asylum seekers is well-documented and routine; In December 2024, three Egyptian teenage boys became stranded in rural Bulgaria in freezing temperatures. Whilst hypothermia set in, they sent out a distress call which was picked up by Aid organisations nearby, who immediately notified the Emergency Services before going to the boys' location themselves. Despite many attempts, the Emergency Services ignored all calls for help, and instead, the Bulgarian Border Police harassed and arrested the aid volunteers that were trying to reach them. All three of the boys froze to death, and in one case, a frozen corpse was found surrounded by boot prints and dog tracks. This film explores how and why these events unfolded as they did, explained by some of the volunteers who were there that night.
